THE IMPACTS OF FOSTER CARE: May is National Foster Care Month! With more than 437,000 U.S. children in Foster Care, and an average of only 200,000 licensed Foster Homes, 30-60% of which drop out each year, there’s no denying that the need for living Foster Families is great! Our Community Impact Theme (CIT) for our upcoming April|May|June 2020 issue of IHBM-North Dakota AND IHBM-South Dakota is going to focus on creating conversation and understanding around the undeniable impacts of Foster Care and the increasing need for loving Foster Families (and Adoptive Families). By doing so, our hopes are to 1) eliminate misconceptions and create realistic expectations about the Foster Care (Adoption) experience, 2) provide resources and support outlets for current and prospective Foster (Adoptive) Families, and ultimately, 3) encourage families to make an impact in the life of a child and be a Foster.
These state-specific issues will feature a variety of personal stories, support articles, signature sections, and tons of additional materials all about Foster Care from organizations such as PATH, County Human Services, Children and Family Services Training Center, AASK, Anne Carlsen, Post Adopt, and more.
